Surgeon Edward Cleaver Maxwell was the son of J Goodman Maxwell Esq of Oakhampton, Devon. He married Georgiana Anne, eldest daughter of Captain Gabriel Johnston RN of Ford Park Plymouth at St Pauls Anglican Cathedral Valletta Malta on 4 November 1874.

Service Record — Edward Cleaver Maxwell

1 Oct 1868 Commissioned Staff Assistant Surgeon.

1869 Moved from Gomer, Gosport to Gibraltar.

1870 On duty in Gibraltar.

7 May 1870 Appointed Assistant Surgeon 1st/13th (1st Somersetshire) (Prince Albert's Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot vice Assistant Surgeon James Watson.

Malta 22 Feb 1872 Arrived from Gibraltar to the Staff Malta.

Malta 4 May 1873 Left for England.

6 Dec 1873 Returned to Malta.

4 Nov 1874 Married Georgiana Ann Johnston, 21 years the daughter of Capt Gabriel and Mrs Georgina Johnston RN.

Malta 2 Dec 1874 Left for the Cape.

3 Dec 1876 Retired upon temporary half-pay.
