Fell ill with Phthisis (Pulmonary Tuberculosis).

Malta 9 Jan 1884 Returned to Malta via Egypt, but shortly after his return had an attack of haemoptysis.

Malta 26 Dec 1884 Died at the "Military Hospital Zabbar" (Cottonera Hospital), aged 26 years, from tuberculous meningitis. His funeral took place on 20 December, with full military honours and was largely attended by the officers in garrison at Malta. Few who knew him would fail to appreciate his sterling worth of character, and both during his career at the hospital and in the army he won the respect and esteem of all who came into contact with him. He was buried at Rinella Military Cemetery, but his remains were moved in 1978 to the Naval Cemetery Kalkara.
