The Royal Staff Corps

Introduction

The Royal Staff Corps was established in 1813 and was attached to the Quarter Master General Department. It carried out temporary field works and its duties were eventually taken over by the Corps of Sappers and Miners.

8 Feb 1816 32 men arrived from Genoa.

1817 Royal Staff Corps

1817 Strength: 20 men.

1818 Royal Staff Corps

1818 Strength: 19 men.

1819 Royal Staff Corps

18 Jan 1819 The Royal Staff Corps left Malta.

1820 Royal Staff Corps

26 Sep Baptism of Peter Batt born on 21 September 1820, son of Sgt James Batt and Mary Anne.

1821 Royal Staff Corps

3 June Baptism of Lydia McCormick born on 21 May 1821, daughter of Pte Patrick McCormick and Mary Anne.

4 Nov Baptism of Edmund Thomas Rowlandson born on 13 October 1821, son of Pte John Rowlandson and Anne.

1822 Royal Staff Corps

The following were baptised in 1822:

  • 4 Aug Anne Talbert daughter of Pte Thomas Talbert and Anne, born on 21 March 1817 previously baptised at Hythe Kent, was publicly received into the church.
  • 4 Aug Charles Talbert son of Pte Thomas Talbert and Anne, born on 19 July 1822.

1823 Royal Staff Corps

1823 Strength: 20 men.

2 Nov Baptism of John McCormick son of Pte Patrick McCormick and Mary Anne, born on 20 October 1823.

1824 Royal Staff Corps

1824 Strength: 19 men.

The following were baptised in 1824:

  • 16 May William Rollinson son of Pte John Rollinson and Anne, born on 16 April 1824.
  • 19 Sep George William Binder son of Pte William Binder and Susannah, born on 4 September 1824.

1829 Royal Staff Corps

15 July 1829 baptism of Robert Onyx Binder son of Pte William Binder Royal Staff Corps and Susannah, born on 9 June 1829.
