Introduction

Major Sidney Martin Hattersley was educated at Cambridge and St Bartholomew's Hospital.

He graduated MB in 1916 and MD in 1931.

1912 House Physician Manchester Royal Infirmary.

1912–1913 Took part in the Balkan Campaign of 1912-1913 as surgeon, Ottoman Crescent Society at Scutari.

30 Jan 1914 Lieutenant RAMC.

16 Aug 1914 Deployed with the BEF to France, but was taken prisoner on 26 August. Liberated a year later he returned to England.

30 Mar 1915 Captain RAMC.

Aug 1916– Dec 1918 Served again in France.

Malta 1 Mar 1919 Arrived from England.

Malta 18 Mar 1919 Appointed Deputy Assistant Director of Hygiene Malta Command.

Malta 15 June 1920 Home leave.

Malta 7 Sept 1920 Returned to Malta.
Deputy Assistant Director of Hygiene Malta Command.

Malta 1921 Deputy Assistant Director of Hygiene Malta Command.

Malta 27 Sept 1921 Birth of John Singleton Hattersley, son of Vera and Sidney Martin.

1927–1932 Served in India.

1935–1941 Served in Egypt.

1935–1936 Served in the Sudan.

1937–1939 Commanding Officer Military Hospital Moascar.

20 Sept 1938 Colonel L/RAMC.

1939–1940 Assistant Director of Hygiene HQ British Troops Egypt.

1940– 6 Dec 1941 ADMS HQ Cairo Sub-Area.

1941 DDMS HQ Cairo.

Jan–Aug 1942 DDMS HQ London District.

24 Mar 1943 Died on active service from illness. Lies buried at Burnham Overy Norfolk Churchyard.
